In the GB Stuart Gallery:
Katerine Horst and Stephanie Wallendjack
Art can be created in many ways. This exhibit showcases just one- the use of small pieces to create a whole. In this exhibit viewers will see work by two artists who create their work this way, but in different mediums. Katherine Horst is a collage artist who uses fragments of paper and other materials to build images of the world around. Stephanie Wallendjack is a sculpture artist who uses porcelain paper clay to build fragmentary forms and vessels.

The Gift of Nature
Marti Yeager, Rod Stabler and Ann Ruppert
Nature is a wellspring of inspiration for artists, but it isn’t her only gift. She also provides the materials used to create works of art. Oil painter; Marti Yeager celebrates the natural world by creating sumptuous landscapes in heightened color. Rod Stabler and Ann Ruppert work collaboratively on turned wood vessels, often decorated with organic motifs.

Working Backwards
Mia Cinelli
What if we could view a future which has already happened? Just as archaeologists sift through historic refuse for insights on culture and behavior, this exhibition offers a retrospective view of a speculative future told through discarded ephemera. What will our future selves require, use, and discard? What stories might these objects and images tell us about who we are—or who we want to be?
Here, ordinary advertisements, packages, and paperwork showcase one hundred years of cultural shifts and historical events. Thrown-out flyers for climate-proofing homes or packages for personal desalination machines seek to expose our preferable, probable, or problematic trajectories—and the actions required to achieve or avoid them. Engaging with contemporary inquiries and inspired by science fiction’s historical influence on futures of the past, these speculative artworks seek to make visible what we otherwise might deem impossible.

COLOR BURST
Peter Seidel and Alison Rosen
Look closer and discover more than just a burst of color. Peter Seidel’s Paintings zoom-in and elevate the forms, color, and play-of-light found in ordinary mouthwash bottles. Alison Rosen’s cloisonné miniatures are works of satire that require the viewer to take a closer look and discover tales behind the colorful characters she creates in response to the ridiculousness of our world.

Care and love are both complicated, essential parts of living – through all stages, ages, and relationships. This exhibit is made in partnership with The United Way of Carlisle & Cumberland County’s “Visualizing the Basics 5” initiative, which promotes principles of community-level family engagement.

ISOLATED
Opening Reception Friday, August 11, 5:30-7PM
Sarah Anne Frotscher draws inspiration for her hand-pulled prints and drawings from unusual formations in nature, simple man-made dwellings, and the human figure. These figures or form become a sort of character, isolated in their environment. Through her art, she explores the sense of beauty and isolation found in the rural Pennsylvania landscape.
A Community Built on Clay
A pop-up exhibit featuring works by some of our Independant Clay Studio Artists.
At CALC, we are proud of the vibrant community we’ve created. One special aspect of that community is our clay studio. This pop-up exhibit celebrates the clay studio and the opportunities it provides by showcasing the work of 4 artists who participate in our Independant Clay Studio program.

100 Cats
June 9- July 1

Cheryl Kugler embarked on a project to draw 100 Cats in need of adoption and sell the drawings to raise funds for Loving Care Cat Rescue and the Nobody’s Cat Foundation. Her drawings are on display and available for sale in the upper gallery. Of the original 100, 63 remain available for sale as of the start of the exhibit.

FLAVORS OF HERE
Food is an essential part of life, and it can serve as a starting point for connection. Why do you eat what you eat? What do other people eat? Where does it come from? What are the flavors of this place where we live? These are all questions posed to students in CALC's ArtWorks! Program and community members, and their creative answers will be on display in this exhibit. Using art as a tool for learning, we built projects together that explore food, flavor, and gathering to share sustenance.
Susquehanna Valley Plein Air Painters
This active group of painters travel widely within the region and beyond, together and separately, capturing the seasonal colors and changing light of the landscape.

Two friends, two artists, two passions. One paints how she feels; one paints what she sees. Gail Walden Coleman feels deeply and uses her emotions to inspire her intimate, heartfelt paintings. Peg Belcastro lives in a forest and infuses her portrayal of the landscape with bold, exciting colors.

A juried exhibit designed to illustrate the connection of traditional textile methods to the contemporary works being created by today’s fiber artists.

An exhibit about nourishing mind, body, and soul. These ceramic artists share their take on the medium and the many ways sculptural and functional works generate a shared experience surrounding community, conversation, and value.

What I Keep: Portraits & Choices

We are honored to present photographer and social activist Mullally's project which documents stories of twenty-first century poverty. In these photographs, each individual shares one personal item that he or she keeps while struggling to survive.

Artists First: CALC's Teaching Artist Exhibit.
Your chance to view work from 20 talented artists who also teach classes at CALC. Diverse styles and mediums include photography, drawing and painting, ceramics, jewelry, textiles and more.
Selected by the instructors, these works in art represent projects created by students in Kindergarten through High School. Senior Art students will present pieces in the second floor gallery. A true celebration of the diversity and creativity of both the teachers and the students in our community!

The landscape of Pennsylvania has long attracted artists with her natural beauty. So it was in 1956 when 7 designers and illustrators got together to enjoy artistic endeavors beyond their 9-5 work day. Over the years 44 different members have been added with an active roster of 12- 18 at any given time. Supporting each other in critiques, plein air ventures, exhibits and a weekly Friday Lunch, they continue to honor the history of and promote plein air and landscape painting in Pennsylvania and the east coast.
