A true mixed media abstract art workshop. Discover new ways of art expression. Students will learn new art techniques while experimenting. Let loose and find your artistic voice. A materials list will be provided upon registration and instructor will share some new art supplies.

Improv Basics

Teacher: Melissa Ford

This is a basic introduction to "long form" improvisation, including “Yes, and," character creation, and object work. Classes will consist of group exercises to get people comfortable interacting with each other onstage, with a focus on enjoying the creative process and having fun together. Give yourself an excuse to laugh and play more! The class will end with a performance to show off your new skills to friends and family!

Weaving 101

Take a break and explore tapestry weaving. You will learn to warp a simple loom, plain weave, create pile or fringe and remove the weaving from the loom and finish it.  Each student will have one small wooden loom (approx. 3” x 2 ¾”) to make wall hangings, necklaces or ornaments and a cardboard loom to experiment with.

Winter Drawing Workshop

After our traditional brushing up on the basics, this class will focus on drawing still life, including a discussion on lighting objects for maximum effect. You will have a number of setups to choose from in case you’re not a fan of drawing flowers! We will be using graphite and white conte pencils or charcoal and white pastel pencils. Tinted paper will be supplied by the instructor. Please bring a bag lunch, a small (18 x18” is good) drawing board with handle, a small set of hard and soft graphite pencils, pencil sharpener and eraser. A 9” x 12” sketchbook is a must. Also bring a second sketchbook with tinted paper if you can.

Build a Snowman

Eucalyptus Magic

Time:  9:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. and return at 1:30 p.m. 
Fee: $35 ($40 non-member) + $30 Materials Fee

Join us to naturally dye a one of a kind scarf.  We’ll use fresh eucalyptus leaves to create a unique pattern on a wool gauze scarf. Through the magic of eco dyeing, the leaves impart their color to the cloth. In the morning session you’ll put your scarf together, place them in the dye bath and we’ll talk about the process. While the scarves are dying you’ll have a break from 11:00 a.m to 1:30 p.m. to have lunch and Shop the Block. Return to CALC at 1:30 p.m. and we’ll remove the scarves from the bath and have the” big reveal”.

Shibori and Indigo

Learn the basics of Shibori, an ancient Japanese resist technique on cloth. We will explore bound, clamped and sewn methods on cotton and silk. Once the fabric is prepared we will dye it in an indigo vat. The students will help make an organic and synthetic indigo vat.

CALC Refund Policy for Art Classes
Carlisle Arts Learning Center does not provide a cash refund for cancellation of art classes, unless the class is cancelled by CALC. In order to request a withdrawal from a class or workshop, students must contact CALC at least 5 days before the first class meeting. Students who request a withdrawal at least 5 days prior to the first meeting will receive a 90% tuition class credit. Students withdrawing fewer than 5 days from the first day of class are not eligible for a class credit.
Please note we are unable to provide make-up opportunities, prorate or provide refunds for missed classes due to personal scheduling conflicts.
