Cuttle bone casting is a metalsmithing method that dates back to at least the 6th century and was commonly used around the Mediterranean to cast pendants and even rings! Students will learn how to prepare cuttlefish bones as molds as well as melt and pour sterling silver. Metal poured into a cuttle bone mold takes on the rich, layered texture of the bone, so each student will leave class with a unique ring or pendant. If student plans on casting a ring, they should bring a ring of the same size with them.
