Dennis Baker is an experienced educator and photographer. Since completing a 35-year career in public education as a teacher and administrator. Dennis has worked as a free-lance photographer, photographed around the world, and has taught photography classes at several local institutions. Natalie Dohman is a multi-media artist and photographer and a Pennsylvania native. She graduated from Harrisburg Area Community College in 2013 with a degree in health and human services which led her to starting a business fusing art and meditative techniques.
Lina Ferrara has a bachelor’s degree from PSU and has pursued post graduate study in art history and Italian at Bucknell University. The Society of Decorative Painters designated Ferrara as a Certified Decorative Artist and she has received the district star award as a Liquitex Certified Instructor. Her work has been featured in The Decorative Painter, Painting, and Paintworks. Lina is a member of the Lewisburg Artist Guild, SVPAP, Oil Painters of America, and the Society of Decorative Painters.
Guy Freeman has worked as a professional photographer for more than thirty-two years. Alongside his commercial experience serving the corporate and industrial markets, he’s always maintained a vibrant interest in the Fine Art side of the medium. Guy has been teaching photography at CALC since 1999 and his work has been included in the Art of the State show at the State Museum in Harrisburg.
John Guarnera is a ceramic artist who uses various firing types; low fire oxidation and primitive pit fire along with 23K gold
gilding and occasionally acrylic or oil paints are utilized separately and in combination. Completed spontaneously from prepared slabs, thrown elements are taken apart and rearranged in a wholly different direction.
Emily Hampson is a ceramic artist and pottery teacher at Harrisburg Area Community College. Emily studied at Messiah College and received a BA in studio art with a concentration in three dimensional works.
Maureen Joyce is the director of ArtsLive and a member of the Pennsylvania Guild of Craftsmen living in Carlisle PA. She attended Carnegie Mellon University, University of Pittsburgh and currently studies at Harrisburg Area Community College. She teaches a variety of ceramic workshops at CALC to encourage participants to explore clay’s various possibilities.
Demi Hauseman graduated with a Batchelor of Science and Masters in Art Education from Kutztown University. She retired from K-12 art education after thirty years.Currently, Demi works with bookmaking, recycled sculpture materials, clay, and fibers.
Janelle Hoch loves to make cozy mugs for hot tea, deep bowls for her famous Butternut Squash Soup, and wide rimmed plates to hold freshly baked crusty loaves of bread. With her BFA in Ceramics from Edinboro University of Pennsylvania, she’s honed her skills and love for all things mud!
Amber Mowery graduated from Moore College of Art & Design with a BFA in Fashion & Textile Design. Amber has worked for Vivienne Westwood Ltd, Urban Outfitters, & Loop Yarn. She was accepted into the Have Company Artist Residency in 2015.
Thomas Oakes, Clay Technician; BA in Art Education, Kutztown University; Certified Art Teacher-grades K-12; Ceramicist, President of the Board at CALC 2008. Taught elementary art for 10 years and now teaches art classes at CALC to all ages while continuing to make pottery for commissioned work and for sale.
Kirsten Olson is a ceramic artist whose inspiration comes from the far north. She completed her MFA at the University of Alaska Fairbanks, has taught as ceramic adjunct faculty at Juniata College, completed a residency in Seagrove, NC. Kirsten received several awards including the American Craft Week 2016 Rising Star, NICHE Award finalist in 2017, and 2017 Best in American Made. Kirsten has her own studio at 34 W. Pomfret Street and manages the ceramic studio at CALC.
Carol Reed is an award winning artist and Pennsylvania native. She has a B.F.A. in Painting from Syracuse University. Carol has completed coursework in chemistry, studied batik in Florence, indigo & natural dyeing at Longwood Gardens and shibori techniques with Ana Lisa Hedstrom. www.carolreed.org
Lori Snyder has been practicing the art of photography since she first began pursuing it at Harrisburg Area Community College over twenty years ago. Relationship with nature and observation of environment are paramount themes in her work. Her aesthetic is often deemed as painterly, which she attributes to many mornings rising before the sun. Fine art photography is her primary niche, but she prefers to leave her options open to possibility.
Gretchen Shea is a mostly self taught jewelry artist. To supplement her own experiments with metal, she has taken classes from metalledwith, The Potomac Bead Company and The Center for Metal Arts.
Rebecca Sior is a local portrait photographer. She graduated from Penn State University with a World Languages Education degree and taught high school Spanish for 10 years alongside her photography business. She currently specializes in photographing families, children and seniors while also raising her own family of artists right here in Carlisle.
Cathy Stone is a graduate of York Academy of Arts fine art program. Self employed for many years, she did decorative painting and designed and created murals both commercial and residential. Cathy has a 20 year connection with CALC as teacher and staff, spending the last 6 years as Gallery Coordinator. As an artist, she works in acrylic, collage, and mixed media.
Kim Stone is a graduate of York Academy of Art (now PCAD) with a degree in graphic design & illustration. Kim has exhibited, & won awards for her fine art and created many commissioned portraits.
Christopher Varner has studied improv at the Harrisburg Improv Theater, as well as the prestigious Upright Citizen’s Brigade Theater in NYC. You can see Chris perform with his team, The Dilettante’s Ball, on stages around south-Central PA or attend comedy and storytelling nights he hosts through HoOt Traveling Comedy.
Jeanney Wharton is a Graphic/Multimedia designer who received her BFA with a specialization in Graphic and On-line Design from Lock Haven University of PA. Originally from the bayous of southern Louisiana, she currently lives in Carlisle. Jeanney has studied many forms of art from pottery, painting, mosaic, stained glass, sculpture, collage, paper art, and graphic design and loves to share her experience and skills.
Lori Yingst has worked as a professional graphic artist and marketing director for over thirty-five years. She studied at Antonelli Institute of Graphic Design and Photography and updated digital design skills at Harrisburg Community College. Lori is a native Pennsylvanian coming to Carlisle in 2009. Currently employed with PA State Parks seasonally. Lori keeps in touch with her art side working as a freelance artist and teaching at CALC. Endlessly finding inspiration in the environment and sharing art ideas is a life long passion. “Art Makes the World go Round.”
Linda Young PWS, BWS, has earned a signature artist status with the Pennsylvania Watercolor Society and Baltimore Watercolor Society; also a member artist of the Susquehanna Valley Plein Air Painters. CALC’s extensive class and summer camp programs are educational and fun, and also encourage creative solutions to problem solving, build leadership skills, self-esteem, and confidence and through the visual arts. CALC’s robust youth art education program offers after school art classes and half-day and full-day summer art camps in our classrooms and throughout the Carlisle community in a variety of mediums.
