For anyone who’s never knit before or those who haven’t knit in a while and would like a refresher. Learn how to cast on and bind off, knit and purl stitch, read patterns and back out of mistakes. You will knit your very own scarf and the basic skills needed to move ahead with more advanced projects.

Knitting ll-Working in the Round + Cables

Materials: Size 10.6 16” circular needle, Size 10.5 8” double pointed needles, stitch markers, large cable needle, approx. 218 yards of chunky weight yarn
Prerequisite: Beginning Knitting or ability to knit & purl comfortably

A great next step for grads of the Beginning Knitting class or those who know the basics of knitting and want to learn a few new skills. You’ll learn how to knit in the round using circular and double point needles, how to shape your knitting using decreases & how to make those complicated looking cables!

Worsted Weight Socks

Materials: 268 yards worsted weight yarn, set of four US 6 / 4.0 mm DPN’s, stitch markers, darning needle, + Laule’a pattern by cabin four which can be downloaded here: http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/laulea)
Prerequisite:  Basic knitting skills, comfortable using DPN’s (double point needles)

Designed to help first time sock knitters understand the basics of top down sock knitting. We’ll work with worsted weight yarn which makes wonderful warm house or boot sock & works up quicker and easier than traditional sock weight or fingering weight yarn. Learn basic top down sock pattern which includes picking up stitches, turning a heel, and how to graft a toe seam using Kitchener Stitch!

Weaving 101

Take a break and explore tapestry weaving. You will learn to warp a simple loom, plain weave, create pile or fringe and remove the weaving from the loom and finish it.  Each student will have 2 small wooden looms (approx. 3” x 2 ¾”) to make wall hangings, necklaces or ornaments and a cardboard loom to experiment with.

Create a Sketchbook!

Materials Fee: $20
Create a personal sketchbook from top to bottom.  In the first session you will marble fabric for a book cover and paper for end page. We will also create some small folded books. In the second session you will put the book together, learning to sew folios and glue end pages.


CALC Refund Policy for Art Classes
Carlisle Arts Learning Center does not provide a cash refund for cancellation of art classes, unless the class is cancelled by CALC. In order to request a withdrawal from a class or workshop, students must contact CALC at least 5 days before the first class meeting. Students who request a withdrawal at least 5 days prior to the first meeting will receive a 90% tuition class credit. Students withdrawing fewer than 5 days from the first day of class are not eligible for a class credit.
Please note we are unable to provide make-up opportunities, prorate or provide refunds for missed classes due to personal scheduling conflicts.
