This 4-week class is for anyone who’s never knit before or those of you who haven't knit in a long time and would like a refresher. You will learn how to cast on and bind off, how to do the knit and purl stitch, how to read patterns and how to back out of your mistakes. At the end of this class, you will have knit your very own scarf and acquired the basic skills needed to move ahead with more advanced projects.

Class is limited to six people and available on a first come, first serve basis.

Weaving 101

Take a break and explore tapestry weaving. You will learn to warp a simple loom, plain weave, create pile or fringe and remove the weaving from the loom and finish it.  Each student will have one small wooden loom (approx. 3” x 2 ¾”) to make wall hangings, necklaces or ornaments and a cardboard loom to experiment with.

Knitting ll-Working in the Round + Cables

Materials: US Size 10.5 16" circular needle, Size 10.5 8" double pointed needles, stitch markers, large cable needle, approx. 218 yards of chunky weight yarn
Prerequisite: Beginning Knitting or ability to knit & purl comfortably

This 3-week class is a great next step for grads of the Beginning Knitting class or those of you who already know the basics of knitting and want to learn a few new skills. You will learn how to knit in the round using circular and double point needles, how to shape your knitting using decreases & how to make those complicated looking cables!

Eucalyptus Magic

Time:  9:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. and return at 1:30 p.m. 
Fee: $35 ($40 non-member) + $30 Materials Fee

Join us to naturally dye a one of a kind scarf.  We’ll use fresh eucalyptus leaves to create a unique pattern on a wool gauze scarf. Through the magic of eco dyeing, the leaves impart their color to the cloth. In the morning session you’ll put your scarf together, place them in the dye bath and we’ll talk about the process. While the scarves are dying you’ll have a break from 11:00 a.m to 1:30 p.m. to have lunch and Shop the Block. Return to CALC at 1:30 p.m. and we’ll remove the scarves from the bath and have the” big reveal”.

Shibori and Indigo

Learn the basics of Shibori, an ancient Japanese resist technique on cloth. We will explore bound, clamped and sewn methods on cotton and silk. Once the fabric is prepared we will dye it in an indigo vat. The students will help make an organic and synthetic indigo vat.

CALC Refund Policy for Art Classes
Carlisle Arts Learning Center does not provide a cash refund for cancellation of art classes, unless the class is cancelled by CALC. In order to request a withdrawal from a class or workshop, students must contact CALC at least 5 days before the first class meeting. Students who request a withdrawal at least 5 days prior to the first meeting will receive a 90% tuition class credit. Students withdrawing fewer than 5 days from the first day of class are not eligible for a class credit.
Please note we are unable to provide make-up opportunities, prorate or provide refunds for missed classes due to personal scheduling conflicts.
